ISSUES OF PREDICTINGTHE IMPACT OF NUCLEAR POWER FACILITIES ACCIDENTS’ RADIATION CONSEQUENCES

چکیده
The analysis for history’s biggest nuclear accidents consequences, at Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and Fukushima-Daihichi NPP, identified various radiation dose loads on liquidators, civilians environment. Predicting the subsequent effects biological ecological objects depends both range other factors not related directly to accidents’ consequences. of stochastic approaches predicting impact revealed their limited applicability cause sufficiently adequate substantiated statistical databases about accidents-produced doses negative effects. deterministic methods that determined limitation due significant quantitative qualitative discrepancies between caused by difference in neutron-physical “dose − effect” models those experimental verification conditions difference. To predict NPP impact, important is develop an alternative risk-oriented approach based integrated use methods, taking into account limitations. unacceptable event “upper” limit probability area depending from accidents, “lower” ones. Such maximum value allowed sickness onset. obtained results can serve a basis objective assessments informing consequences NPPs.

THE EXISTENCE OF fissionable materials raises the specter of radiation accidents. Partial nuclear reactor core meltdowns have occurred already; the accident at Three Mile Island in 1979 was the fourth such episode to have occurred in America since 1952. Further, “significant release” episodes have taken place in five states, and the potential exists for radiation accidents during storage, trans...
متن کاملComparison of the Chernobyl and Fukushima Nuclear Power Plants Accidents and their Consequences
This work compares the radioactive consequences due to the Chernobyl and Fukushima NPP accidents. Due to non-homogeneous features of the fallouts of radioactive isotopes in the both cases the comparison of radioactive contamination density was compared for similar administrative units – in Russia (Bryansk region, Novozibkov subregion) and in Japan (Fukushima prefecture, Namie municipality). We ...
متن کاملConservation consequences of Chernobyl and other nuclear accidents
The explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on 26 April 1986 released vast amounts of radioactive material over an area of 200,000 km in eastern and central Europe, affecting all living organisms. The biological impacts including the conservation consequences of this event are still poorly known even 25 years after the disaster. Here we assess the effects of this environmental disaster f...
متن کاملAlternative evacuation strategies for nuclear power accidents
In the U.S., current protective-action strategies to safeguard the public following a nuclear power accident have remained largely unchanged since their implementation in the early 1980s. In the past thirty years, new technologies have been introduced, allowing faster computations, better modeling of predicted radiological consequences, and improved accident mapping using geographic information...
